Steel Nautilus and Aquanaut references trade on scarcity; almost everything else trades on the ordinary luxury pattern of a discount to list. The two are separate markets under one name.
The strongest resale in watchmaking on average — and the widest gap between its sports watches and everything else.
About 15% above retail on average · Q2 2026Highest retention of any major makerFounded 1839 · Geneva
Pre-owned Patek Philippe watches averaged about 15% above retail in mid-2026 — the highest of any major maker. That average is carried by the steel sports models: the discontinued Nautilus 5711/1A trades around $90,000–115,000 and the Aquanaut 5167A around $60,000–70,000. Calatrava dress watches and many precious-metal complications resell below their list prices.

Patek Philippe sits at the top of the watch market on almost every measure, and in 2026 that included value retention: its pre-owned prices were further above retail than any other maker's. Very few Patek owners, though, are holding the watches that produce that figure.
The steel Nautilus and Aquanaut are rationed so tightly that their secondary prices have little to do with their list prices. Much of the rest of the catalogue — Calatrava, Gondolo, Twenty~4, precious-metal complications — can be bought by a patient client and trades below list on the secondary market, sometimes well below.
Patek Philippe will issue an Extract from the Archives for its watches and services and restores pieces of any age. Both support value in a way few makers can match.

On a modern Patek the certificate and box are expected. A watch without them is harder to sell at the top of its range, and the gap is widest on the sports models.
The steel 5711/1A jumped when its end was announced in 2021, fell back with the wider market after 2022, and has been recovering since. The end of production is priced in quickly — and so is a cooling market.
A service record from Patek Philippe itself supports value, particularly on a complication, where the cost and difficulty of an independent service are priced in by any buyer.
Sports references attract specialist dealers and major watch auctions, and competition narrows the gap between an outright offer and a private sale. For a steel Nautilus or Aquanaut, several offers are worth gathering before accepting one.
Calatrava and complications sell best through a dealer or auction house with Patek clients, where the buyer pool is deep enough to support a fair price. An archive extract and the certificate are worth having in hand before the watch is offered.
Indicative ranges for honest condition, never an appraisal or a quotation. The house buys, sells and values nothing; a specialist who can see the piece is the only one who can price it.
