Pre-owned Cartier watches averaged roughly 25–30% below current retail in mid-2026. The Santos holds better than most: a steel Santos Medium (WSSA0029) lists at $7,750 in the US and sells pre-owned for around $6,500–6,800. Cartier jewelry holds more — a classic 18k Love bracelet lists at about $7,950 and commonly resells for 80–95% of that — while quartz and gem-set pieces resell for less.

Cartier is a watchmaker and a jeweler, and its two resale markets behave differently. The watches follow the pattern of most unrationed Swiss watches: available new, and therefore resold below list. The Love and Juste un Clou bracelets behave more like gold with demand behind it — the metal sets a floor, and steady demand holds them close to retail.
Cartier has raised retail prices repeatedly. In the second quarter of 2026 it was the one maker in the value-retention index whose discount to retail widened, because list prices rose faster than used prices. Price a used Cartier against today's list, and expect the discount to reflect that.
Cartier boutiques accept pieces for service and in many markets inspect them first, which makes a Cartier service record genuine support for a resale price.

Why two Cartier watches fetch different figures
The things a buyer prices in, in roughly the order they look for them.
Box, certificate and screwdriver
On a Love bracelet the screwdriver, box and certificate are expected, and missing ones cost real money. On a Santos, the spare strap and link-removal system matter the same way.
Dents in soft gold
Eighteen-karat gold dents and scratches easily. Light polishing by Cartier is normal; heavy wear and dents are priced in, and a bracelet that has been resized or repaired outside Cartier sells for less.
Quartz or automatic
Quartz Cartier watches, especially older Must models, resell for a small share of their original price. Automatic Santos and Tank references hold noticeably better.

Where to sell Cartier, and what you keep
Jewelry buyers and luxury consignors compete for Love and Juste un Clou bracelets, which keeps offers close to the private market. A buyer paying scrap value for the gold is paying well under what the bracelet is worth — ask for a resale offer, not a gold price.
Watches sell like other Swiss watches: a private sale or consignment nets more than a dealer's outright offer, which prices against the discounted figure new watches are sometimes sold at.
