Prada's identity rests on very few marks, which makes each of them load-bearing. The enamelled or metal triangle plate, the interior logo stamp, and the lettering on the zip pulls are effectively the whole system, and a counterfeit has to get all three right at a level of detail most do not reach.
The famous Saffiano leather and the nylon — now re-engineered as Re-Nylon — are the two materials that carry the maison's volume, and both have physical properties that are hard to imitate. Saffiano's cross-hatch is pressed into the leather and runs at a consistent angle; nylon has a particular weave density and a matte finish that cheaper fabric renders shiny.
Prada uses an authenticity card with a controlled number on modern production, and the maison has moved to embedded chips on newer pieces. Cards travel independently of bags, so treat them as an accessory rather than as evidence.
The triangle is the maison's mark and the first thing a counterfeit attempts. On genuine pieces it is metal, substantial, and attached with the plate sitting perfectly flat and level against the material. PRADA is engraved with even letter spacing, and beneath it 'MILANO' and the maker's line. The R has a straight, angled leg rather than a curved one — a small letterform detail that counterfeits routinely miss.
Inside, a leather patch or a fabric label carries the logo stamp with the same lettering, and on many models a separate small tag carries a code. Prada's internal codes are not a public register and cannot be checked against a database, so their value is again physical: impressed rather than printed, level, even in depth.
Authenticity cards accompany modern production and carry a controlled number. They are separable from the bag and are traded on their own, so a card is worth nothing as proof and a missing card proves nothing either. The chip in current production is readable by the maison, not by you.
Ordered by how much each one settles. The decisive checks are the ones worth your first five minutes; the supporting ones only matter once those are clean.

A plastic-feeling plate, a plate that sits proud at one corner, or letters that are uneven in weight are each decisive.
Saffiano is a cross-hatch pattern pressed into calfskin, running at a consistent angle across every panel, and it continues across seams in a way that shows the panels were cut from the same run. A pattern that changes angle from panel to panel, or a surface that feels like coated plastic rather than pressed leather, are failures.
Prada's nylon is densely woven with a matte finish and a specific weight — it holds shape without being stiff. Shiny, thin or slippery fabric is the commonest fake tell in the category. On Re-Nylon pieces the maison labels the material explicitly, and the label's stitching should match the bag's.
Pulls are engraved rather than printed, and the engraving is deep enough to catch a fingernail. Prada's own zips carry the maison's mark; a generic branded zip on a bag presented as current production is a strong signal. Pulls should hang straight and swing with weight.
The logo inside is struck into leather or woven into a label, and either way it is even and level. Foil-stamped logos wear by dulling and losing foil in the recesses, not by flaking off in sheets. A logo printed onto the surface is decisive against.
Linings are branded logo jacquard or plain textile depending on the line, and the branding, where it appears, repeats at a consistent scale with the seams cut so the repeat is not chopped mid-word. Seam allowances are finished cleanly, and there are no glue traces at the edges.
Because Prada's marks are few and small, counterfeiters concentrate their effort on the triangle and often ignore everything else. That means the fastest reliable read is not the triangle at all but the material — the angle of the Saffiano cross-hatch or the density of the nylon weave, both of which require the right raw material rather than the right die.
The re-emergence of the nylon line in the last few years has produced a very large volume of copies, and those are usually beaten on fabric weight within seconds of picking the bag up.
