Authenticate David Yurman Cable Bracelet

The house's signature form, and the piece its counterfeits copy.

New York

The cable bracelet is a helix of twisted precious metal with capped ends, usually set with stones. The twist is machined to a specific pitch, consistent along the whole length, with defined edges to each strand.

Counterfeits cast the twist, which produces a shape that reads as soft under magnification and whose pitch varies along the piece. Compare the tightness of the helix at the centre against the tightness near the caps.

The end caps fit flush with no adhesive visible and the stones are set rather than glued. The signature and hallmark are struck into a cap or the inner surface, crisply and level.

The market

What a Cable Bracelet does on the secondary market

Modest. Sterling pieces resell at a fraction of retail; gold pieces are floored by metal content.

An orientation for honest, unrestored condition — never an appraisal, and never a quotation.

Questions we are asked

How do I check the cable's twist?
Compare the tightness of the helix at the centre against the tightness near the end caps. Genuine cable is machined to a consistent pitch with defined edges to each strand; cast copies vary along the piece.
Should the end caps show any adhesive?
No. They fit flush with no gap and no glue visible, and the stones are set rather than glued.

The checks tell you how it was made. The instrument tells you what it appears to be, and roughly what its kind fetches.
