The Neverfull is structurally simple, which is why the counterfeits are numerous and why the reads are concentrated in three places: the side laces, the interior pocket, and the removable pouch. The laces run through eyelets and are finished with vachetta tabs that darken at the same rate as the handles; laces that are stiff, uneven in length, or fitted with tabs in a different tone are the common failure.
The interior of a genuine Neverfull is textile, in a colour that belongs to its release — the classic monogram versions run a striped or plain canvas lining, and the palette has changed by season. A slippery synthetic lining, or a lining colour that does not correspond to any release of that year, is a strong signal.
Every Neverfull is sold with a matching zipped pouch on a leather leash. The pouch has its own date code, and on genuine production the pouch code and the bag code agree in era though not necessarily in the exact week. A pouch with no code, or a pouch whose leather clearly differs in colour from the bag's trim, is worth pressing on.
The handles are two flat straps of vachetta, stitched down at four points on each side. Look at where they meet the body: the rivet heads should be flush, evenly set, and unmarked by tool slippage.
