The Willis is the archetypal vintage Coach: a small structured satchel in heavy glove-tanned leather with a brass turnlock and a dog-leash clip on the strap. It is the bag that made Coach's American production reputation and the one the collector market pays for.
The reads are all material. The leather should be thick enough that the bag holds its shape, matte, and patinated unevenly where hands have touched it. The turnlock is solid brass with a precise quarter-turn action and no play. The creed inside is stamped into that thick leather with the slight depth variation that thickness produces.
Coach has reissued the Willis in modern production. Those are genuine and are not the same thing as the originals, and the creed distinguishes them.
What a Willis does on the secondary market
The strongest part of the Coach secondary market. Honest patina is an asset rather than a fault here, and a Willis with its original strap and an intact creed trades well above a modern reissue.
