Authenticate Bottega Veneta Cassette

The oversized-weave shoulder bag that defined the Daniel Lee era.

Introduced 2019Vicenza

The Cassette uses a deliberately padded, oversized Intrecciato — the strips are wide because the design says so, not because the maker economised, which makes strip consistency the read rather than strip width. Every strip in a genuine Cassette is the same width as every other, and the padding beneath gives each one an even, rounded profile.

The weave has to turn the corners of a boxy bag, and on genuine production it does so without a join. Look at the base corners and at the top edge where the weave meets the closure.

Hardware is minimal and matte, and the strap adjusts through a slider that holds under load. The interior is suede or fine textile with a small impressed stamp.

The market

What a Cassette does on the secondary market

Held up well as the shape has stayed current. Padding condition — the weave flattens with heavy use and does not recover — is what sets the price.

An orientation for honest, unrestored condition — never an appraisal, and never a quotation.

Questions we are asked

Why is the Cassette's weave so wide?
Because the design specifies a padded, oversized Intrecciato. Wide strips are correct here, which is why consistency rather than width is the check: every strip on a genuine Cassette matches every other.
Does a flattened Cassette weave recover?
No. The padding compresses with heavy use and does not come back, and that condition point sets most of the resale price.
